Third in the Blacktop Cowboys erotic romance series. The primary couple focus is on Renner Jackson and Tierney Pratt and takes place on Renner’s ranch-resort, the Split Rock, in Wyoming. There’s a secondary couple: Janie and Abe have some catching up to do.

My Take

This was fun! It’s a case of mistaken perceptions and taking the old man down a peg. But on the way, it’s one confrontation after another between Renner and Tierney. The dangers threatening Janie have Abe on guard and insisting on her staying at his place for her protection.

The older ladies of Muddy Gap can just plain be scary — just what does a “cowboy cocksucker” taste like? Then there’s Garnet complaining about…

I don’t remember the last time I saw a live penis.

Followed up by their reminiscing about the all-male revue they checked out…

Oh, them penises don’t count…Them penises were in captivity.

It is so much fun watching Renner succumb to his virginal city girl! Even as Tierney succumbs to the beauty of the wild West and its supportive community. A community that really comes together when Renner needs it most.

James has a way of taking the everyday and putting a twist in it. Making it fun and this is one of the reasons why I enjoy James so much! Check it out — Renner talking to a group of men when Tierney walks up…

Tierney…you’ve got that look in your eye that means I’m in trouble.

Oh, too funny! Ladies, just another way to get your man’s attention when you want to talk…

“‘So if I said I was ready for another round of rambunctious sex? Would that wake you up?’

They were spooned together so she felt his dick twitch against her backside. ‘Okay, Now you’ve got my interest. What’s up?'”

Then there’s the girl-on-girl dancing that Tierney and Celia engage in to teach the boys a lesson.

Then there are all the *ahem* encounters between Renner and Tierney during the day. Neither of them wants anyone at the ranch to know what’s going on between them and it makes for a few funny scenes.

The Story

The economy did a number on Renner’s finances and he’s had to solicit investors. One in particular who has sent a financial overseer to keep an eye on his investment. A snotty, little rich bitch whose daddy buys her anything. Shee-it. That Tierney knows where and how every damned penny is spent and doesn’t hesitate to question everything and anything.

Abe talks Janie into helping him make some final decisions on his remodel of the family farmhouse when she comes over to collect boxes that Harper could use at the retail shop at the Split Rock. It’s a good thing he’s following behind her when a truck rams her off the road! Yet another incident forces Janie to reveal a nasty truth about her past. It’s dngerous enough for Abe to force Janie to stay with him at his ranch. The ideal opportunity for the new Abe to seduce his ex-wife. For Janie to figure out just where their lives got off track. For Abe to reveal just how far he expects his Janie to go.

But it’s that night at Buckeye Joe’s when Renner drags Tierney home that they both receive a mind-blowin’ revelation: Renner is the most amazing kisser and Tierney was lookin’ for cock. Not a fact that Renner was prepared for. Nor is it one he will allow, not unless it’s his.

Not a cock Tierney had expected although…she is not averse as she’s been fantasizing about Renner for quite awhile. She’s falling in love with him, with the ranch, the town, and Wyoming. And she’ll do whatever she can to help all of Renner’s dreams come true.

The Characters

Tierney Pratt is fuming over her father bypassing her for a deserved promotion. Again. So she takes advantage of that clause in her employment contract. The one that Daddy uses to dump employees and heads out to one of his investments, a hunting resort in Wyoming. Tierney is in for an education — ya just don’t wear pink suede pumps out to a corral! Gene Pratt is a controlling jerk and has made his fortune by inserting barely visible clauses allowing him to take over the companies in which he invests. Ooh, mama, he does not suspect just how strong his little girl is.

Renner Jackson had a dream of a western retreat and resort, the Split Rock. It’s almost there, but it’s hard work when he’s splitting his time between getting the resort open and managing his stock contracting business. Tobin isn’t your typical ranch hand. Not with that master’s degree in reproductive biology. Dodie is the cook at the ranch who creates a small crisis at Thanksgiving; good thing Tierney has such good friends down at the Beauty Barn.

Janie Fitzhugh has returned to Muddy Gap to decorate Renner’s new resort, and she’s found she is still very attracted to her ex-husband Abe. Abe Lawson sure would like to have Janie back in his life, but he doesn’t plan to tell her all his secrets.

Harper and Bran Masterson are busy remodeling his home (see Saddled and Spurred, 2) even while Harper goes crazy working the retail shop at the ranch.

The Mud Lilies down at Bernice’s Beauty Barn include…
Garnet Evans, Pearl Tschetter, Tilda O’Toole, and Vivien Edwards are right scary for a man. Just ’cause they’re in their 70s, doesn’t mean they’re not interested in men. Maybelle Linberg is a reporter for the Muddy Gap Gazette. There are no holds barred when it comes to these ladies whether it’s shocking the youngsters or rallying in support of Thanksgiving dinner — it’ll make you so hungry to read about the dishes these ladies cook up! — James, we could use those recipes up on your website!

Vivien’s pearl onions in a balsamic honey glaze and sweet and sour green beans; Bernice’s sage, mushroom, and bacon stuffing; Dodie’s cranberry-apple-orange-horseradish relish; and, Garnet’s maple nut pumpkin pie and bourbon caramel bread pudding.

Sheriff Bullard is trolling for underage drinkers at Buckeye Joe’s. Deputy McConnell investigates the crash that sent Janie off the road. Celia and Kyle Gilchrist get a mention…one particular mention Abe is so not happy to hear. About his baby sister getting another spanking. Breck Christianson is another of Celia’s friends. Skeeter, Davy, and Michael make up Breck’s entourage.

The Cover and Title

The cover is awash in warm colors and a hot cowboy, thumb hooked in a belt loop and a coiled rope in the other as he leans back against a rail fence with his brown plaid shirt open exposing that touchable six-pack wearing his jeans low on his hips. The background is the ranch as he looks back at the barn, silos, and a herd of cattle grazing.

The title is accurate enough ’cause Renner surely is Wrangled and Tangled in that ball-bustin’ accountant with her sexy glasses, tight skirts, and those crazy shoes.
