A standalone picture book for the budding scientist in your young child.

My Take

It’s perfect for the child who is into bugs or wants to be “scientific”. And it’s not so much a story, as a series of fun, bouncy rhymes as a young boy tells us all about the bugs he loves — including his most favorite — the scary, send-me-squealing bugs! It’s danged handy that Dodd uses first-person protagonist point-of-view, lol.

The graphics are huge, lol, and quite colorful with an easy blend of realism and comic. The text is also large which makes for easy reading.

See if you can find the inchworm on the inside cover!

The Cover and Title

The cover is cheerful with its orange sky and graphics that fill the cover. It’s a young boy in pale purple pants and a striped yellow and orange T, lying on the ground with blades of grass in front, holding his magnifying glass, making that ladybug look huge. Another ladybug is flying away, her wings spread wide. The title almost fills the top with a deeper orange outlined in black with a yellow highlight on the right side of the letters. The author’s name is below it in a smaller font in black.

The title is all too true, I Love Bugs! is what this young man is all about.
