My Take

It’s a lovely summer read with some interesting twists.

The Story

Driven to succeed, Lee Radcliffe is determined to get an interview with the reclusive Hunter Brown. A tip from a contact sends her to a writers’ conference in Arizona where he is the [secret] guest speaker.

Her first two unbeknownst encounters are stimulating until she discovers who he really is while the passion that flares between them terrifies the very-focused reporter in her. He wants to plumb her depths, to use her as a character in his next book while she sees an interview with him as a stepping-stone in her ladder to success.

Both are angry, irritated, and intrigued. Then Hunter offers to give her the interview if Lee agrees to spend two weeks camping in Oak Creek Park with him. For her story, she’ll do anything, and she quickly agrees. She will have her story.

And so the very cultured, very refined Lee packs for her very first camping trip, taking her makeup, and except for the interference of her friend, Bryan Mitchell, would have taken her silk blouses and slacks as well. It’s a challenge for Lee but she’s too determined to give up as she relaxes into her trip just as Hunter falls deeper into her spell.

The Characters

Lee Radcliffe is a tenacious Celebrity magazine reporter. Bryan Mitchell is a respected photojournalist and friend.

Hunter Brown is wildly successful — and wildly reclusive — horror author.
