Fifth and 0.2 in the MacGregor historical romance series revolving around the MacGregor family.

This series is a mess chronologically and has a number of stories combined into single books, so you may want to explore my list of the MacGregor family saga.

Series (chronologically):

For Now, Forever, MacGregors, 7
In From the Cold, MacGregors, 2

My Take

Well, this was poorly assembled! For Now, Forever is printed before In From the Cold, so if you are as obsessive as I am about reading a series chronologically, be sure to read this book backwards! Start with the second story and then progress back to the first. What were they thinkin’!!?

That said, for the most part, both stories are sweet and nothing particularly special. And yes, part of my feeling is from being irked about having read the second first. The other part is that I found it so hard to believe that Roberts couldn’t find some material to write between 1745 and 1950ish. By the time I got to the second generation of the MacGregors, I just wasn’t in the mood…

Daniel MacGregor is the last of the now extremely poor Scottish MacGregors and has emigrated to the States to make his fortune in Boston.

Ian MacGregor lives in Boston and is the son born to Coll MacGregor at the end of the Culloden Massacre.

The Cover and Title

The cover is consistent with the printing order and the title, rather cocked up. I’m assuming that the couple on the brown tone-on-tone-striped background are meant to represent Daniel and the orange satin-gowned Anna due to the tux and bowtie the man is wearing. Too bad someone forgot to inform the cover artist that Daniel has a beard. Ya’d think that Roberts had built up enough oomph in the publishing world that she’d have some say…or at least someone to watch out for her interests…

The title is accurate in that the first story is about Daniel — a 1950ish MacGregor — while the second is about Ian who romanced his intended in the early 1770s.
