Book Review: Kyra Davis’ “The Stranger”

Book Review: Kyra Davis’ “The Stranger”

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.”The Stranger”on January 21, 2013 and has 133 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon First in the Just One Night erotic romance series. The focus is on Kasie Fitzgerald — safety or freedom. This book was provided by the publisher. My Take Wow, Davis is amazing. I love her metaphors, her presentation of what’s expected of Kasie. She explores the concept of fantasy. Of the appeal of voyeurism. The beauty of memories. This is an analysis of how we approach life, if we acknowledge our beliefs, our philosophies…all within the confines of Kasie’s self-examination. Part of the deal was that I not quote from the book…and I cannot begin to tell you how difficult this is! There are at least three quotes I had wanted to post. One on the jerk. Another in which Kasie feels so out of her depth and Davis expresses this so beautifully! And the third, oh god, it’s just so sad how trapped Kasie feels… It’s safety versus freedom, expectations versus self-realization. It’s a safe life Kasie has […]

Book Review: Jasper Fforde’s The Song of the Quarkbeast

Book Review: Jasper Fforde’s The Song of the Quarkbeast

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Song of the Quarkbeastin Hardcover edition on November 10, 2011 and has 290 pages.or Amazon Second in the Last Dragonslayer fantasy series for children revolving around Jennifer Strange and the very odd inhabitants of Zambini Towers in Hereford in the Kingdom of Snodd. My Take This one was much easier to read than The Last Dragonslayer! And just as nonsensical. I love it. Kids will love it. It’s a soap opera of fun as Fforde pokes away at our love for gawking, greed, people in charge, flying carpets, corruption, orphanages as well as the more positive traits of humanity such as love, loyalty, and putting one’s best foot forward. I loved the snark once Prawns comes back to earth. That Lady Mawgon is somethin’ else! All I can say is, it’s a darn good thing that Jennifer is in charge! I cracked up when Jennifer answered the phone “Pinnochio’s Pizzas” and totally flustered Blix. I do wonder how Fforde keeps coming up with such silly ideas, names, and yet makes it all […]

Book Review: Sarah Frantz’s O Come All Ye Kinky

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.O Come All Ye KinkyExplore it on Goodreads or Amazon Eight short stories of fairly intense BDSM revolving around a Christmas theme. Be aware that “twenty-percent of all proceeds from the sale of O Come All Ye Kinky will be donated to the Domestic Violence Project of the National Leather Association-International” intended to provide aid for victims of domestic violence, promote safe sexual practices, and fight bigotry. My Take With all the chat there’s been about Fifty Shades and other novels which explore the BDSM scene, I’ve become very aware of how ignorant I am of this attraction. Yes, I’ve been reading a number of them and — keeping in mind that this is my only experience — I think O Come All Ye Kinky‘s selection of short stories is an excellent introduction to what attracts those who need this type of stimulation. The reasons the kink appeals to […]

Book Review: David Lubar’s Attack of the Vampire Weenies & Other Warped & Creepy Tales

Book Review: David Lubar’s Attack of the Vampire Weenies & Other Warped & Creepy Tales

I received this book for free from the library in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Source: the library Attack of the Vampire Weenies and Other Warped and Creepy Talesby Davie Lubar fantasy in Hardcover edition that was published by Starscape on May 24, 2011 and has 224 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon Thirty-three short — and I do mean short — tales about the creepy and unexpected. Be warned, almost all of these stories have seriously creepy endings. My Take It’s a little bit R.L. Stine and a little bit Roald Dahl. I think these could be great stories to read aloud with your kids and then talk about the weird thoughts they have. Encourage them to expand upon what crazy ideas they’ve had. A warped and creepy spur towards creative thinking… Have fun with the names that Lubar comes up with as well. Mrs. Reaker and her stinky house, the Meander village… The Stories “Not Another Word” is a real switch and finds the protagonist baiting a mime. Only…who is baiting whom? Too funny. “Get Out of Gym for Free” is about the universal […]
