Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting is always evolving. As we come across issues, they'll be posted.
- Text is positioning itself wrong
- Weird stuff keeps happening
- Link doesn't work
- Disabled link color doesn't show when the hyperlink is removed
- Text box won't move when I try to drag it
Don't Expect iWeb to…
- Allow anchor links (If you've figured this out, let me know…please!)
- Group objects together (you have to hold down SHIFT while you click each object you want to move, every time you want to move objects)
- Track your font and the font size reliably
- iWeb does NOT maintain a constant font or size for your content, especially if you are pasting text in from another document
- Each time you update a file stored on your hard drive, you must re-link its iWeb text link
- For some reason, iWeb does not update to the new version of that file even if that new version has the same name and is located in the same place on your computer
Problems
- Your text is positioning itself wrong
- Text usually positions itself oddly if you have cut-and-pasted it in from another program. This was caused by a cut-and-paste from another program. There are two ways to fix this:
- Retype the whole thing
- Insert your cursor in front of the first indented line
- Click
Delete
(deletes the return) - Click
Enter/Return
- Click
Delete
- Click
- Weird stuff keeps happening
- Shut iWeb down and restart. If weird stuff still keeps happening. Shut down the computer and restart it. It's amazing how many issues can be fixed this way!
Another option is to chooseFile > Publish Entire Site. This serves as a small re-boot and replaces any corrupt CSS files.
OpenFinder > iDisk > Web > Sites > name of the problem website- Delete the entire website from iDisk
- In iWeb, open
File > Publish Entire Site- This clears out any corrupted files without removing your actual website; provided you DO have your site in iWeb
- By re-publishing the entire site, you rebuild all those deleted files
- Link doesn't work
- Verify that the URL is correct
- Check to see if a text box is overlapping the problem link. A text box on top of a link will prevent the link being accessible
- Disabled link color doesn't show when the hyperlink is removed
- After typing the link text, select the text and change the font color to the desired disabled link color.
Generally, it's best if you color the link text with your preferred disabled color from the get go. Then when you unlink it, your preferred disabled color will appear.- Text box won't move when I try to drag it
- The text box has probably been inserted
inline
, i.e., your cursor was probably IN the existing text box when you inserted a new text box.
To fix this:- Select the text box that's giving you problems
- Cut it,
CMD + X - Click your mouse somewhere OFF the web page proper (on the side)
- Paste the box back in,
CMD + V - The box should float now
Anytime you want a floating text box, select off the webpage before clicking the text box icon.

KD Did It will work with you.Kathy Davie is an artist, educator, and author of the arts marketing series, Your Portfolio & You, aimed at helping artists survive (and thrive) at the business of being an artist.
As a self-taught artist, Kathy was frustrated by the lack of information on taking her career to a more professional level while meeting legal guidelines and learning about legal hiccups. Her drive for information fueled her to interview numerous professionals and compiled the information into a monthly news column. She now leads workshops and is converting the news columns into this continuing series of how-to books.
Kathy has a BS in Technical Writing & Editing with minors in Digital Media and History from Metropolitan State College, Denver, CO and is the author of Accounting for the SMALL Businessperson, How Copyright Applies to the Artist, the Buyer, the Employer/e, the Sold Artwork, Dealing with Photographs, Slides, Digital Images, and Surviving the Outdoor Arts Festival.
