Fourth in the Jill Kismet urban fantasy series in Santa Luz.

My Take

Well, this was gruesome. Voodoo is twisted to hell and gone in this story with Hellbreed, Trader, and voodoo practitioners alike in fear of the latest big bad. And it looks as though Jill may be picking up an apprentice, causing Saul some second thoughts…

Kismet isn’t impressed with humans who look away and rationalize paranormal activity. I don’t see this as fair. Obviously, if the person is hurt (or in the process of getting hurt!), I’m going to try and do something to help, but my first reaction on seeing something unusual or weird is to ignore it as a courtesy to the person.

And, yeah, I get that this is fiction and the author(s) (since Saintcrow is not the only fantasy/paranormal author who makes this point) are simply seeing reactions based on their own point of view…which is my point.
