“Ghouls Night Out” (Nicki Styx, 2.5)

The Stories

Maggie Shayne’s “Til Death”

This involves a long-running curse that sees dead the bride of any man who cheats on her. An early ancestress of Kira’s caught her husband in bed with the maid, shot him, the maid, and then jumped out the window to her death but not before laying a curse on the women of her family that if their husband should cheat on her, he will accidentally cause her death so that she never has to know that he cheated on her. Naturally, Kira is the one who will, somehow, end this curse. There are some dodgy bits in here but on the whole a nice little story with a sad, romantic ending.

Jeaniene Frost’s “Happily Never After”

is loosely connected to the Vampire Huntress series in that Bones asks a fellow vampire, Chance, to do him a favor and help an old, mortal friend of his with some trouble into which her grandchildren have fallen. Isabella’s n’er-do-well brother, Frazier, has gotten kidnapped by mobsters and the mobster, Robert “Robbery” Bertini, has decided that Isa will be the perfect Italian bride to put the finishing touch on his mob-oriented goals — and her brother will have a very nasty accident if Isa doesn’t marry him.

Terri Garey’s “Ghouls Night Out”

This is a cute, yet ghostly, romp through a Goth chick’s being dragged into replacing a runaway bridesmaid for her cousin’s wedding. Only the thought of her mother and guilt can force Nicki into donning that ugly pineapple dress and it’s at the shop being fitted that Nicki encounters the runaway bridesmaid. Not so runaway after all since Michelle is dead. Endure the redneck pre-wedding jitters with Nicki as she and her boyfriend, Joe, solve Chelle’s murder.

Kathryn Smith’s “Wedding Knight”

A cute historical romance between a reluctant vampire and a Juno-esque Victorian bride-to-be. After running out on Violet five years ago, Payen is back to stop her wedding to a man who will only break her heart.

The Cover and the Title

The cover is cute with the hip-high roaring flames surrounding a nude although veiled bride tossing us the bouquet as she faces into an archway, a full moon gleaming on the other side.

I can honestly say the title says it all. Each story has a wedding from hell.
