My Take

This is the first erotic romance I’ve read that is about a regular suburban family with in-law issues and somewhat normal dysfunctional families. A warm, homey, erotic romance…who knew?? I did enjoy this, although I would have preferred that it had ended on a more definite note.

I did like that Anne finally found her balls *ahem* so to speak. Her mother-in-law was in desperate need of a putdown.

While there was a nice pull of erotica, most of the story was involved in family. Anne’s subjection to her mother-in-law’s machinations. Her relationships with her sisters, her avoidance-loving mother, and her alcoholic father. Her own family interactions come out through the planning she, Mary, Patricia, and Claire are doing for their parents’ thirtieth anniversary party. Along the way we learn of the drama playing out in their own individual lives. Mary quietly developing a relationship with as she plans her return to school. Claire, the wild one, unexpectedly pregnant who gains a new dignity. Patricia coping with the surprise of mountainous debt. Anne indulging in a ménage a trois with her husband’s best friend.

The Story

Although Alex and James haven’t spoken to each other since their blowup fight years ago, he’s suddenly coming to visit for a few weeks between his corporate enterprises — the one he sold and the one he’s thinking about. At least that’s what James has inferred. Instead, it seems that James wants to indulge his wife in what he thinks is her fantasy. A fantasy someone had circled in one of the women’s magazines sitting in the bathroom.

Anne is tormented by an immediate attraction to Alex when he suddenly appears in the kitchen doorway. Confused, Anne allows the attraction to simmer as she alternately approaches and retreats until James and Alex undertake their sensual assault.

The Cover and Title

It’s a fairly generic erotic cover with three nude bodies lying down. The title is certainly perfect, for Anne is very unfairly Tempted by James’ plan.
