My Take

I’ve been so looking forward to reading this story, assuming it would be as nauti and suspenseful to read as her Nauti Boys series.

The characters are wonderful, as always, and I love the whole B&B scenario. But the story itself is so contrived and the reasons Leigh provides as to why Homeland Security wants Eve brought in and made his lover is incredibly muddled. I get the feeling that Leigh reckons we’ll just buy her books no matter what effort she puts into it.

Considering later revelations, I don’t get why Donny and Sandi are so up in Evie’s face.

This is a half-hearted effort, it’s eroticism is, um, damp, and I am so disappointed. It is not going on my buy list.

The Story

Seems Dawg’s dad had four half-sisters with their mother, who is years younger than Dawg! Homeland Security found the last of Chandler McKay’s accounts, shut them down, and cut the girls off from funds. Crawford has taken them in and brought them to Dawg, trusting he’ll do right by them.

It’s five years later in this story, and Eve has been falling for Brogan Campbell for the past two-and-a-half years. Only, Dawg has forced a promise from her to not get involved with him.

Brogan, on the other hand, is under orders to draw the Mackays in, using Eve to flush out members of the Freedom League.

The Characters

Eve Mackay is the oldest of Chandler McKay’s four bastard daughters at 19 (in the prologue). She rotates working at the various Mackay businesses in Somerset, although all the girls work at Mercedes’ bed-and-breakfast. Piper is 18; Lyrica is 17 and has a major crush on Graham Brock; and, Zoey just turned 16 and loves painting.Their mother Mercedes, who is almost seven years younger than Dawg(!), has struggled to care for them.

Dawg Mackay is one of three cousins from the Nauti Boys series; he’s married to Christa and they have a daughter (Nauti Nights). The girls are his half-sisters, and he’s taken them in. They’re family after all. Rowdy and Natches Mackay both play a part as well. Rowdy is married to Kelly (Nauti Boy) and they have a daughter. Natches is married to Chaya (Nauti Dreams) and they have a little girl, Bliss, who has excellent hearing to Natches’ dismay.

Brogan Campbell is undercover for Homeland Security (HS) and all anyone knows in town is that he’s a very bad boy with a Harley and the leader of the Cumberland Touring and Motorcycle Club. He’s also the bastard son of the director of HS, JD Bryce. Brody Campbell is his brother and one of his partners along with Jed and Eli. Chatham Bromleah Doogan III is his boss, director of operations, and a major player, pulling all sorts of strings, using anyone.

Timothy Cranston is the “fat, evil, little leprechaun” who is supposedly former Homeland Security. He’s fallen in love with Mercedes and lives at the B&B.

Members of the Cumberland Touring and Motorcycle Club include:
Donny “Bowie” Sutherby and Sandi Mikels are a nasty couple determined to harass Eve.Grady “Poppa Bear” Aarons and his wife Mary, a.k.a., “Momma Bear“, are retired. Shanna “Baby Bear” Aarons is their daughter. Then there’s Hondo Grael, Pooh Yonkers and his sister Marbles, and another sister and brother, Boo and Homer Kennedy.

John and Sierra Walker own Walker’s Run, the bar Rogue gave them and where Eve sometimes works. Dakota “Kota” Wayne and Matteo are two of the bartenders. Rogue Mayes (she’s married to Sheriff Zeke Mayes, Nauti Deceptions, and they have newborn Zeke, Jr.) is full-time managing Janey Mackay Jansen‘s restaurant, Mackay’s Fine Dining. Alex Jansen is still Somerset’s chief of police (Nauti Intentions); they have a six-year-old daughter, Erin. Faisal Mackay is now Declan, and he’s the floor manager at Janey’s. Ray and Maria Mackay, Rowdy’s parents, get a mention along with the traditions they started up for their new family without the jerk Mackays. Even the Augusts from Madison, Texas (the Men of August series) are showing up for these reunions.

Samantha Bryce is a detective and Brogan’s little sister. For an unwanted bastard, he’s got siblings everywhere. Kraig is her partner.

Kai Maynard is Judge Kiser‘s foreman.

The Cover and Title

I’m going to assume that the stretch of dark brown is Lake Cumberland, as the surrounding grasslands don’t make sense otherwise. There is a lovely sunset to make up for it. It’s a shirtless Brogan who appears more anxious than the black-clad Eve for this particular embrace.

The title is a misnomer. I didn’t get a real sense of Eve being a Nauti Temptress. Maybe because I was so disappointed.
