Book Review: Courtney Maum’s I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You

Book Review: Courtney Maum’s I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without Youin Hardcover edition on June 10, 2014 and has 336 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo An exploration of life, love, and marriage between an artist and a lawyer in Paris. This story begins in late September 2002 a few weeks after 9/11 and continues through the first invasion of Iraq when Bush is insisting that Weapons of Mass Destruction are in Iraq and Americans are eating Freedom fries. My Take I was reluctant to read this one. The whole cheating on one’s significant other is anathema to me, however, the artist in me who loves Paris couldn’t resist it for that side of the storyline. And it was well worth it. Yes, I loved listening to Richard as he thinks his way through his motivations and thoughts about his art. How he’s selling out with his keyhole paintings, his thinking behind the WarWash. I like the sound of his keyhole work, but then I’m a representationalist, and I may have an intellectual […]

Book Review: C.E. Murphy’s Raven Calls

Book Review: C.E. Murphy’s Raven Calls

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Raven CallsIt is part of the Walker Papers #7 series and is a in Paperback edition on March 1, 2012 and has 384 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo Other books in this series include [books_series] Seventh in the Walker Papers urban fantasy series and revolving around an urban shaman, Joanne Walker, a detective in Seattle. This story continues where Spirit Dances, 6, left off. My Take This is more fantastical … hmmm, maybe not … than earlier stories. I think my thoughts were that Raven Calls is more fantastical because Joanne goes off to Ireland and flips back in time, battles the Morrígan, meets up with ancestors — and her mum! — battles more bad guys … Yep, it’s definitely more fantastical, lol. Yeah, I know you’re gonna say that Joanne battles bad guys, meets up with gods and monsters, runs around on alternate planes, and shapeshifts all the time. And she does. However, this is more. And scarier because Joanne loses Gary in time and battle! And the cauldron […]

Book Review: Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child’s Relic

Book Review: Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child’s Relic

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Relicin Paperback edition on August 1, 2005 and has 473 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo First in the Pendergast horror-thriller series revolving, eventually, around a cheeky FBI agent. My Take I was surprised to discover this is a Pendergast-focused series. A good thing, as he was my favorite character. The surprise comes from his low visibility in this. The focus is primarily on Margo Green and Dr. Frock, followed by Kawakita, and then law enforcement. Pendergast is a hoot. Quite the intellectual, he knows a lot about a lot and uses it as a conversational ploy to sidetrack people. I absolutely adore how he deals with pretentious twits. He certainly isn’t your typical FBI agent. I do like the sound of this exhibition. What a fascinating concept, exploring superstitions. Now that I’m going back over my notes, there are some little bits and pieces that make so much sense after having read the end. And, it’s terrifying! Now. The niggles…sigh …it’s more of a case of where do I start […]

Book Review: Melissa Marr’s Darkest Mercy

Book Review: Melissa Marr’s Darkest Mercy

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Darkest Mercyin Hardcover edition on February 22, 2011 and has 327 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo Fifth and last full-length story in the main Wicked Lovely paranormal romance fantasy series for young adults set in Huntsdale. This one is the big battle…at last…and ties up a number of loose ends, although from the short stories I’ve read, the series story continues on and there is the Desert Tales graphic series. It’s been two years since Aislinn became the Summer Queen. There’s a short story, “Merely Mortal”, in Marr’s Faery Tales & Nightmares (you can also find it in Enthralled: Paranormal Diversions), that occurs just before the Epilogue in Darkest Mercy. My Take This is where it all takes place and ends, and it’s both satisfying and terrible. Yep, I cried. The war with Bananach against Winter, Summer, and Dark when Bananch declares herself the new Dark Queen. Seems Sorcha had been planning in advance as well when she made Seth her son back in Fragile Eternity, 3. And it’s all […]

Book Review: T.S. Krupa’s Safe & Sound

Book Review: T.S. Krupa’s Safe & Sound

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Safe & Soundon January 1, 2014 and has 312 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo A romance from the heart that begins with Jay and Jill Greenfield, that starts in Greensboro and ends in Oak Island, North Carolina. A special thanks to T.S. Krupa and Advantage Media Group for sending this story to me to read. My Take I blubbered my way through most of this story. It starts out so sad, then progresses to angry — although I don’t understand how she doesn’t get how very much Jay loved her — before it slides through scary until Jill slowly finds herself and her love. It’s just beautiful. It’s got to be the nightmare every parent, every spouse, every significant other hates. That missed phone call. That perhaps if you’d only answered that phone, it wouldn’t have happened. No, I’m not saying it makes sense …sigh… How can you not adore this sentiment? It was a honeymoon with the flu, and yet Jill thought it was the “most magical trip I […]
