A free short story, 13.1 in the Psy-Changeling paranormal romance series, revolving around shapeshifters and psychics. The focus is on two couples Sascha and Lucas of DarkRiver and Sahara and Kaleb of the Psy.

My Take

This is a deleted scene from chapter 7 in Shield of Winter, 13, which was included in Nalini Singh’s newsletter dated 10 March 2015.

Singh is using a third person simple subjective point-of-view from Sascha’s perspective, what she feels and thinks.

It’s a simple story with feelings and a small bit of chat amongst four people, all of whom have some psychic ability.

There isn’t much action, but it is all about the characters. And I’d say you should have read the series in order to really grasp the importance of this meeting.

The Story

It’s an important meeting, one in which Sascha intends to test the truth of Sahara and Kaleb’s relationship.

The Characters

Kaleb Krychek is an extremely powerful (and a deadly predator) Psy with two cardinal powers: telekinesis and teleportation. He will do anything for Sahara Kyriakus, his mate and a Cardinal Psy who had been imprisoned for seven years.

DarkRiver is…
…the leopard pack in the San Francisco–Bay area led by Lucas Hunter, an alpha black panther, and his mate, Sascha Duncan, a runaway Cardinal E and daughter of the ruthless Nikita Duncan, one of the leaders on the Psy Council.

SnowDancer is…
…a neighboring pack of wolves which is led by Hawk.

The Title

The title is a critical moment establishing trust in “Kaleb and Sahara’s Meeting with Sascha and Lucas”.
