Book Review: Eileen Wilks’ “Brownies”

"Brownies"

by

Eileen Wilks

It is part of the World of the Lupi series and is a paranormal fantasy in a PDF edition that was published by the author and has 2 pages.

Other books in this series include [books_series]

Other books by this author which I have reviewed include Midnight Promises, Death Magic, Tied with a Bow, Mortal Ties, Ritual Magic, Unbinding, Mind Magic, Dragon Spawn, Dragon Blood, "Good Counsel", "Cyncerely Yours", "The New Kid", Mortal Danger, Blood Lines, Night Season, Mortal Sins, Blood Magic, Blood Challenge, "Human Nature"

A deleted scene (you can read for free) that takes place just before Blood Lines, 3, in the World of the Lupi paranormal fantasy series revolving around a world in which werewolves and magic are true. This story involves an agent for a brownie reservation.

My Take

This is a quick peek at the brownies’ reaction to the end of Mortal Danger, 2, and probably a prelude to understanding their culture when they show up again in Mind Magic, 12.

It’s nicely written for being a mere two pages, lol, and in third-person point-of-view from a scholar’s perspective. However, it’s so little that I wonder why Wilks bothered.

The Story

It’s been fifteen years since Helen wrote that definitive thesis about brownies…

The proof of its worth is in the partying.

The Characters

Helen Bingham, an agent with the Bureau of Brownie Affairs who had written a thesis about brownies, who has a calico cat, Patches, who has an arrangement with the brownies.

The Southern Brownie Reservation is…
…located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with a change in population.

The Title

The title refers to the “Brownies”.
