My Take
I do enjoy erotic romances, and the premise of Entangled in Them was erotic but rather unmoving — it was mostly tell as opposed to show.
Farrar uses first person point-of-view from Dillon’s, Ryan’s, Kodee’s, and Rue’s perspectives. Farrar does make it clear who’s perspective is active at the start of each chapter. She’s also good at dragging out the tease — what it was that Dillon needed that money for as well as why Kodee was so anti-women. Yep, it was a surprise for me!
Jeez, it always shocks me that a parent can be so heartless. Sure, I know this is a novel; I’m also sure that this does happen in real life. Sold so young, Rue has been beaten into knowing she’s just property. That she has no say in what she wears, eats, or does. Conditioned to sex.
It is an interesting story in terms of the issues each of the main characters have. Rue has a difficult time understanding men who care while the others have their own difficulties in having a woman around who threatens their business . . . and their emotions.
Entangled in Them is a combination of sex, thriller, and the angst of the characters. It’s all that emotion that keeps the pace and the prose slow.
Another niggle is that two of the main characters aren’t important enough to have a last name. I get that Rue doesn’t have one, but Dillon and Kodee??
The Story
Dillon was sorely disappointed — to say the least — when two of the Capellos’ goons showed up with a girl as his payment. It was not what Dillon had bargained for, and he knew he would be in deep with his partners for exposing them to the Capellos.
They don’t dare turn her out. And Kodee and Ryan are furious with Dillon.
The Characters
Rue was sold into sexual slavery by her drug-addicted mother. She thinks she might be around twenty-two. She knows she’s older than eighteen.
The business and relationship partners . . .
. . . specialize in forging IDs. The irresponsible, charming Dillon is quick to anger. Ryan Berget lost the lower part of his leg in Iraq six months ago. He prefers to be the sub in their relationship. Kodee has a master’s in graphic design and suffered an incredible loss. He’s the cool, calm one who likes to cook. Vanessa had been his wife.
Dr Gordon Little is a prothetist.
The Capello Brothers
Francesco “Frankie” and Manuel Capello run things. Their goons include Duncan.
Joe Nettie is the Capellos’ main rival. Troy is one of Nettie’s goons.
Cisco King is another gangster.
The Cover and Title
The cover is primarily black with a deep blue for a background on the upper third. Two men are in suits on either side of the entangled Rue and Ryan, who is in a white shirt and black suit pants with his hand at Rue’s throat and Rue’s hand grasping his left arm. Rue is wearing what appears to be a long-line black bra and black pants. At the very top is the overall series name in a pale blue. At Rue’s and Ryan’s upper hip is the series info in a very pale gray. The title is a combination of three fonts with the first word in a teal green, the second in pale gray, and the third word in white. At the very bottom is the author’s name in a lighter teal green.
The title is true enough, for Rue does get Entangled in Them.
