Fifth in the Black Knights Inc romantic suspense series and revolving around a black ops organization whose cover is that of a custom motorcycle shop. The focus is on Eve Edens and William “Wild Bill” Reichert.

My Take

An unwanted blast from the past forces Eve to come to terms with her actions back then as Walker catches us up on how Eve first met Bill all those years ago. The regrets she has for how she and Billy broke up. Then Walker terrified me with Eve’s wanna-be killer, who loves her but needs her dead.

Ooh, it’s that third person dual protagonist point-of-view from Eve’s and Wild Bill’s perspectives that clue us in on a whole lot. Eve is coming to terms with her past bad decisions and the longtime-coming one about her father. The past deceptions of her manipulative father.

Manipulation and betrayal, for years, by family.

Oh, yeah, Born Wild is very much about characters and wild action that will keep you on the seat of your chair.

The Story

Eve is suffering a series of close-calls, from those Somali pirates who kidnapped her to the fire that took out her apartment to the sabotage of her Vespa.

It has been twelve years since Eve first met Billy, other than that rescue from the Somali pirates last year. It’s that knowledge of him that causes Eve to seek him out for protection.

The Characters

Evelyn “Eve” Edens, a socialite and daughter of an East Coast heiress and Midwestern real estate mogul, is a marine biologist who has self-defense driving skills and is a five-time CYC Mackinac Island racing champ. Her best friend is Becky. Jeremy Buchanan, a multi-millionaire, trust-funder, is more like a brother than her cousin and works Vice for the CPD. Aunt Betty, Jeremy’s mother, had been Eve’s surrogate mother. That controlling jerk, Patrick Edens, is her opinionated, elitist father whose Keystone Property Development is an umbrella corporation that includes Edens Enterprises and Parish Properties. Blake Parish, a big-time land-developer’s, Robert’s, son, a.k.a. Mr Universe, had been her husband. Now divorced, he wants her back.

William “Wild Bill” Reichert is a former Navy SEAL with BKI. Phoenix is the name of his bike.

Black Knights Inc. (BKI) is . . .
. . . a company of covert operatives whose cover is that of a custom motorcycle shop. Becky, Wild Bill’s little sister and an amazing mechanic, is married to Frank “Boss” Knight who owns BKI (In Rides Trouble, 2). Peanut, an ugly and fat tomcat, is Becky’s. Other employees/operatives include Bryan “Mac” McMillan, a former all-star FBI agent; Toran; the gay Ace is a master at Muay Thai with a helicopter license; Ozzie is BKI’s resident techno-geek; Steady is the team medic; Flyboy; and, Jake “the Snake”, who got married in Rev It Up, 3. Geralt is one of the Connelly brothers who work as guards for BKI.

Washington, a former Marine drill sergeant, is the chief of the CPD and knows the truth about BKI. Detective Normandy suddenly takes Eve seriously.

Samantha Tate is an annoying investigative journalist for the Chicago Tribune. Kristin Avery is Fox’s news reporter. Bernard is her cameraman.

Red Delilah’s is a favorite biker bar of BKI and owned by Delilah Fairchild, a certified public accountant. Buzzard is one of Delilah’s most loyal patrons. Brenda is an office assistant at McClovern and Brown. Dale Pennyworth, a volunteer firefighter, had been Eve’s stalker. And he likes to “dress-up”. Preston Ferrell had won a gold medal at the 1998 Olympics. Arthur is a doorman at Eve’s father’s building. Devon Price, with his degree in finance, is the leader of the Black Apostles, a Southside gang. Chartreuse is a hooker.

Todd Stockwell had been a jerk in high school. Violet Jessup had been the unluckiest woman in the world. Dr Fisher.

The Cover and Title

The cover’s background is a slanting black-and-white photo of a sunglass-clad Wild Bill in a tank top. The text begins with a blue band angled across the top right corner with a testimonial. The title is centered in the same blue with splatters of oil all over it and wings on the left edge of the B. Between the title’s two words is the series info in white. Below this is the author’s name in white with an info blurb in between, also in white.

The title is who Billy Reichert really is, Born Wild.
