A story in the Chick ‘n’ Pug series and revolving around a baby chick and a pug dog who must save the, er, the chew toy.

My Take

Uh-oh…it starts on the title page with someone burrowing under the fence and a nose sniffing for…what? It’s an innocent Pug lying down sleeping, of course, and the perky Chick bouncing off him. Totally oblivious to the sneaky intrusion…

This is even better than the first Chick ‘n’ Pug!

Sattler’s graphics (they look like a combination of watercolors, colored pencils, and ink) convey a great sense of humor. Only witness that chase as Chick goes after The Dude…carrying an umbrella through the water sprinkler, wearing a sock as he dashes under the clothesline while The Dude got the jockey shorts, lol.

Oh, man, those “ordinary citizens”, lol.

Huh, Sattler surprised me…I was expecting a Casablanca-type ending.

Chick ‘n’ Pug make a great pair and such opposites, lol, you can’t go wrong laughing through their, hmmm, I should say, Chick’s antics. It’s Pug who’s the laidback one and the voice of reason *grin*

The Story

He’s taller than the Chrysler Building. He drools more than a teething baby sucking on a piece of Jello. Chick and Pug know him only as…The Dude.

When the larger-than-life Dude ambles into Pug’s territory and steals Pug’s favorite chew toy, Chick is ready to take down the slobbering scoundrel. However, that would require making Pug get up first…

Will Chick save the day? Will Pug nap through all the best parts? And will we ever see what’s at the top of The Dude’s incredibly long legs? Stay tuned!

The Characters

Chick is a very excitable, well, baby chick, and he adores Pug whom he sees as the Wonder Pug from stories he reads. Pug is mostly wondrous because he adores sleeping. Squeaky Hamburger is Pug’s favorite chew toy.

The Dude looks more like a happy sheep dog.

The Cover and Title

The cover is a soft grass green…well, it makes sense, since it is the grass with a few scattered dandelions. It’s a happy Pug in a Superman cape sitting next to an excited Chick to the right of him. Behind them, towering so high above them that his white furry head is lost is The Dude.

The title is all about that encounter when Chick ‘n’ Pug Meet the Dude. I can’t help but think of the movie, The Big Lebowski, with that “dude”.
