WARNING: Diesel eBooks Closing

WARNING: Diesel eBooks Closing

Judith Rosen at Publishers Weekly warns that “Diesel eBooks to Close“, although “Diesel holds out the possibility that its closing isn’t necessarily for good. ‘We’re exploring our options… Understand Understand,’ it posted on its front page, ‘this doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t see Diesel in another form in the near future.’ One of those options is anti-trust litigation filed in the Southern District of New York against the same companies as the Department of Justice lawsuit: Apple, Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin, and Simon & Schuster. In the meantime, Diesel customers are reminded to download all their eBooks by March 31; it won’t be possible after that date. Tweet this warning to a friend!

Book Review: Jaleigh Johnson’s The Mark of the Dragonfly

Book Review: Jaleigh Johnson’s The Mark of the Dragonfly

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Mark of the Dragonflyon March 25, 2014 and has 400 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo I did receive an ARC from the publisher, and I’m hoping this is the first in a new fantasy, steampunk series for middle-grade readers revolving around Piper, an orphan from Scrap Town Sixteen with a talent for machines. My Take On the whole, I loved this story, and I hope Johnson writes more! It’s an intriguing mix of tropes that Johnson twists and twists and twists into her own unique tale with chases and rescues via coach, flying boy, gliders, and the top of the train amidst battles with slavers and raiders, oh my! There’s some nice values in this as well. Ya gotta love Gee when he says he doesn’t like the girls, but they’re passengers on his train, and he’ll do whatever he can to protect them. The loyalty the girls find along the way, and the frightening revelations of Piper’s gift both provide an uplift. The best one for the kids […]

Book Review: G. Willow Wilson’s Alif the Unseen

Book Review: G. Willow Wilson’s Alif the Unseen

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Alif the Unseenin Hardcover edition on June 19, 2012 and has 433 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo The story swaps back and forth between Alif’s adventures and the advice the Princess Farukhuaz is being plied with by her nurse, much as The Thousand and One Nights flips back and forth between the princess telling stories to stay alive for one more night. My Take The Internet’s call for freedom and its unseen ability to rouse a people clashes against a religion interpreted to keep the oppressive in power in a fun, romantic, and terrifying adventure that spans the digital world of programming; the mystical with its jinn, effrit, and spirits; and, the repressive state of a nameless Middle Eastern country. Its hero is a squealing child who mans up and discovers the truth of those around him while Dina is the secret strength behind it all, LOL. The weaker sex? Pshaw. Alif the Unseen is a story which coasts as does Alif before it dips into a deeper understanding, using […]
