They’re not actually Gothic in the usual sense. Instead, they are three completely separate romances. One is during the 1960s on Long Island, another is set during World War II on the East Coast, and the third is in Dublin, Ireland. All three stories are most interesting for the attitudes of the times. If insta-love bothers you, you should probably skip this trio. The Stories “Ring of Fear” is a sweet if somewhat unbelievable story of a young lady fleeing her rapist after her father’s murder and participating in horse events where she’s rescued by a fellow rider from a series of unfortunate events. It’s an insta-love which takes awhile for me to grasp isn’t so insta. It’s set in the 1960s and there was an interesting disconnect for me. McCaffrey writes of the time period with its drug use and the clothing and yet it has a very contemporary feel […]

Book Review: Jill Myles’s “Foreplay”

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.”Foreplay”in eBook edition on October 16, 2010 and has 14 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon This is a prequel to the Succubus Diaries. Fourteen whole pages of prequel (268 on the Kindle). Please note that I am giving this book a “4” for the great writing and I’m trying not to let my pissiness get in the way. I received this eBook from the author. My Take Myles is a very good writer, and I still feel gypped on this. It’s only as long as a start into a chapter, but the amazing part is how much story Myles managed to tell in this extremely short book without actually giving anything away. Just enough to hook ya. And I have to confess that as curious as I am as to what happens next, I’m too irritated to want to pursue it with the actual start, Gentlemen Prefer Succubi. […]

This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Plum IslandIt is part of the John Corey #1 series and is a in Paperback edition on January 1, 2002 and has 592 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon Other books in this series include [books_series] First in the John Corey suspense series revolving around a cop in New York City convalescing from bullet wounds. Although, the story actually takes place in Long Island. My Take Oh my god. I swear, if you look up “snark” in the dictionary, you’ll find John Corey’s picture. He is so incredibly funny as the sarcasm just falls right out of his mouth. Early on, John visits the murder scene (as a consultant for the cops), and the homicide detective in charge is annoyed at what appears to be some lookie-loo on her scene: “Excuse me.” “You’re excused.” “Excuse me, are you supposed to be here?” “I’m here with the band.” And it just keeps gettin’ better! I am curious how the pay offer falls from $100 a day to a week to $1 a day. It’s […]

It’s really more of a “3.5”, but I had to up it to a “4” if only because Jo isn’t being so dang stupid this time around! My Take Just another day in Jolene Parker’s life. Murder, mayhem, and no longer surprising her husband with what she’s up to. I do enjoy the homey warmth of this series. And it’s always fun to imagine racing about in the vintage cars Bork includes! Cory will do anything to help Brennnan. ANYthing. He doesn’t care if it will turn Brennan against him forever, as long as he’s safe. What is with James?? He goes to […]
