Finally got around to reading an article by Carolyn Henderson about Group Think in the FineArtsViews Daily Newsletter, Issue 1036, 23 Sept 2011. The main point that really caught my attention was that “In any collection of people, no matter how offbeat, there are those who find innovation upsetting and return matters to the appropriate status quo”. Now, this is an issue I can get my teeth into as not only is my preferred media not generally viewed as art, many of my contemporaries [when I was first starting out] condemned my media choices as not traditional. I didn’t care. I did it anyway and it was quite satisfying. And things only got better when I finally did encounter like-minded artists. So, if your art satisfies you, fulfills a need you have to create, just do it.
