Word Confusion: Dud versus Dude

Revised as of7 Jan 2023 I always read the reviews on Amazon, as they’re real-world experiences. And I don’t allow all the spelling and grammatical errors to influence me. But I do want to fix ’em!! There was one that particularly caught my attention when the reviewer was talking about what a dude the product was. I concluded he meant dud. Now, a dud is a faulty object or person. A dude is primarily a guy, who may dress up carefully. Dude may also be an exclamation . . . about a guy. Think about it, if your character were a guy would you want him to be perceived as a dud or a dude? Word Confusions . . . . . . started as my way of dealing with a professional frustration with properly spelled words that were out of context in manuscripts I was editing as well as books I was reviewing. It evolved into a sharing of information with y’all. I’m hoping you’ll share with us words that have been a bête noire for you from either end.
