A free short story, 1.1 in the Hidden Legacy magical realism fantasy series, revolving around Nevada Baylor and Connor “Mad” Rogan in an alternative Houston, Texas.
My Take
The story starts with Rogan wondering why Adam has progressed from being a spoiled little jerk to murdering a cop. Involving Rogan’s family.
It’s an interesting lead-up to Burn For Me’s park scene where he kidnaps Nevada.
The story is mostly a repeat of the scene in the Mercer Botanical Gardens, although yes, it is Mad Rogan’s first person protagonist point-of-view. And his thoughts on what Nevada is doing “for” Adam Pierce. His musings make this story so much more interesting, as he is so wrong, lol.
There’s action — chasing down Nevada from Rogan’s perspective is exciting, yet it’s mostly thoughts from Rogan as he tries to figure out what’s going on and how he can help Gavin.
Ah-ha! We find out what the roll of fabric is actually for!
The Story
Adam Pierce, a fire Prime, is public enemy number one after he murdered a cop. What’s worse is that he’s involved a relative in Mad Rogan’s family. The son of his favorite cousin.
The Characters
Connor “Mad” Rogan, of House Rogan, is a billionaire Prime, a telekinetic of unimaginable power, and ex-military having trouble adjusting to civilian life. Gavin is Rogan’s nephew, the son of his favorite cousin, Kelly.
Nevada Baylor is a truthseeker and private detective and co-owner of the Baylor Investigative Agency.
Augustine “Pancakes” Montgomery, an illusion Prime and head of House Montgomery, runs Montgomery International Investigations which “owns” the Baylor Detective Agency.
Adam Pierce, of House Pierce, is a psychopathic rogue Prime, with unimaginable fire power.
Mercer Botanical Gardens makes an interesting meeting place.
The Cover and Title
The cover uses an image from the Ilona Andrews website depicting the particular garden at Mercer Botanical Gardens. I used white for all the text from the title at the top to the info on the book in which it takes place and the series info. The author’s name is at the bottom.
The title is to the point, for it is the first from “Rogan’s POV 1”.
