A free short story, 1.2 in the Hidden Legacy magical realism fantasy series, revolving around Nevada Baylor and Connor “Mad” Rogan in an alternative Houston, Texas.

My Take

It’s another take from Rogan’s perspective in first person point-of-view when he has Nevada chained in his basement interrogation room in chapter five and explores our illusion of safety.

Rogan truly is the Prime that Andrews has described. Believing they are above the law. Powerful. Will do anything to achieve their goal.

It’s okay to kidnap Nevada “because no one had taught her not to let herself be kidnapped”.

Oh, okay. That’s all right then. Then he explain the chains. It’s for her “safety”.

We get all this due to Rogan’s perspective, as he considers how Nevada will react to his ritual, which he has carefully orchestrated to intimidate her. Yep, Rogan continues with his belief that Nevada is an Adam groupie.

It also reveals his more compassionate side . . . and exposes Nevada’s strength and honor. I did have to laugh at the “Good show” paragraph.

This short story (and the earlier “Rogan’s POV 1”) has some action, but it’s mostly Rogan’s thoughts about what he’s doing with some “chat” with Nevada as he tries to get her to give it all up.

A fun read.

The Story

Now that Mad Rogan has Nevada chained up in his “awesome basement man cave/enhanced interrogation fun room”, he can torture her for what she knows about Adam Pierce.

Oops.

The Characters

Connor “Mad” Rogan, head of House Rogan, is a telepathic and telekinetic Prime who is off the scales. The “Claw”, technically an Acubens Exemplar spell, will do his dirty work.

Nevada Baylor, a truthseeker, is a private investigator and co-owner of the Baylor Investigative Agency.

Adam Pierce, of House Pierce, is a psychopathic Prime with unimaginable fire power, who has been in trouble his entire life.

The Cover and Title

The cover uses an image from the Ilona Andrews website depicting a dark navy Houston skyline below a deep blue and gray dire sky with darts of lightning. To make it more interesting, pale blue spell circles are superimposed above the skyline. I used white for all the text from the title at the top to the info on the book in which it takes place and the series info. The author’s name is at the bottom.

The title is to the point, for it is the second from “Rogan’s POV 2” in Burn For Me, 1.
