My Take This sets the series story up and introduces us to the characters along with their backgrounds. We have a chance to see Matt grow and harden up while Fen begins to find worth in himself. Jesus, I want to call Social Services on Matt’s parents. Who are these people? I can see how the lectures have made Matt a good person, but couldn’t his parents ever give the kid a compliment?? Take his side? It’s certainly a good example of how parents should NOT act with their children. DO NOT compare your children. Each child is an individual; allow them to be that individual! Arghh! Then there’s Fen. WTF? If Fen’s people know how this works with the wolves, I should think they’d have a heck of a lot […]

Book Review: Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ Perfect Cover

Book Review: Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ Perfect Cover

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Perfect Coverin Paperback edition on February 12, 2008 and has 275 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo First in The Squad fictional spy series for Young Adults and revolving around the unsocial Toby Klein, the furthest possible candidate for cheerleading you can imagine. My Take This is humorous and pokes fun at and uses our perceptions of cheerleaders as witless, social mean queens for the Perfect Cover. It’s the anti-makeover makeover with a Toby who gets “elevated” to cheerleader status, and she moans and groans all the way through. She doesn’t want this “honor”, and yet she slowly comes to understand the truth underneath it all. I do love the twist Barnes puts on all the usual expectations. It’s a serious topic — status and popularity at school — and Barnes has all sorts of fun with it as she makes her point. And it’s both sad and funny to watch as Toby gets submerged in what she doesn’t want. Very nicely done. I’m anxious to see what Barnes has done […]

My Take Oooh, Joanne has a date with Morrison — K – I – S – S – I – N – G…lol… The way Jo is carrying on, you’d think it was the end of times! As much as I want the romance to get going with Joanne and Morrison, Murphy is clumsy about it when she finally starts. I loved how Murphy explained the auras of inanimate objects — and it is something I’d like to believe! I’ll take all the help I can get! God knows, Joanne needs help when they respond to that domestic violence call and her urge to save her partner goes to […]

Book Review: Zane’s The Other Side of the Pillow

Book Review: Zane’s The Other Side of the Pillow

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Other Side of the Pillowin eBook edition on August 5, 2014 and has 288 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo This is a romance series with the couple focus on Jemistry Daniels and Tevin Harris. Based in Washington D.C. My thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing this temporary ARC for me to read. Yeah, temporary, as in they’re canceling my access to it as soon as it’s published. Talk about a cheap shot. Won’t be reviewing any more Zane books with this attitude. And, yes, it’s cast a pall on how I’m looking at this story, so take this with a grain of salt. My Take We view this from two different points-of-view: Jemistry’s and Tevin’s. Mostly, it was depressing for Jemistry’s attitude and how incredibly defensive she is. She’s so defensive that she’s offensive. I do agree with parts of it, and I’m not sure if I’m more envious of her take-charge attitude or appalled at how she treats people. Now, Tevin. Oh, yeah, I love how […]
