Book Review: Melissa Marr’s “Stopping Time”

Book Review: Melissa Marr’s “Stopping Time”

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Stopping Timein eBook edition on April 23, 2010 and has 36 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble This one is 2.5 in the Wicked Lovely so-very-romantic paranormal series for Young Adults. The couple focus is on Leslie, Irial, and Niall. My Take This is so romantic and makes me cry. Makes my heart hurt with all that Irial is giving up. It irritates me that Leslie wants nothing to do with the Dark Court, and yet she encourages Irial to hang around. She likes the protection of the fairies, but she doesn’t want to give back. I can, however, understand why she doesn’t want to be part of their Court: she’s too attracted to it and worries that she’d succumb. Annnd, okay, the fae do live forever so hanging around “invisibly” for however long Leslie will live is equivalent to a long weekend for them. Still, it bugs me. Means I have to suspect that Marr intends to bring Leslie back into the fold at some point…*grin*… “The only monster I […]

Book Review: Dana Reinhardt’s We are the Goldens

Book Review: Dana Reinhardt’s We are the Goldens

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. We are the Goldenson May 27, 2014 and has 208 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo A fictional exploration of the twin-like relationship between siblings with one veering off in one direction while the other mourns her loss. I did receive this as an ARC from the publisher. My Take I’m conflicted. We are the Goldens is well-written, but incredibly depressing. I’m also rather annoyed that Reinhardt kept teasing me, “promising” a fatal ending, which was, in the end, unexpected. It’s Nell’s story with a history of how the girls came to be, their closeness until high school intervenes with its hormonal challenges. The day-to-day interactions and how close Nell is to Felix, and eventually the truth of their relationship. This dialog is split against Nell’s occupation with her sister’s growing coldness. The fears Nell has about Layla. The questions she has about why Layla is pulling away. Wondering what’s wrong with her, with Layla, with their parents, with school. When it’s wrong to keep secrets and how to let those […]

Book Review: B.J. Daniels’ Rescue at Cardwell Ranch and Wanted Woman

Book Review: B.J. Daniels’ Rescue at Cardwell Ranch and Wanted Woman

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Cardwell Ranch & Wanted Womanon May 27, 2014 and has 448 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo This is a two-for-one offering with Rescue at Cardwell Ranch the fifth in the Caldwell Ranch series while Wanted Woman is a standalone story. I did receive this as an ARC from the publisher. Rescue at Cardwell Ranch This is the fifth in the Cardwell Ranch romance series revolving around the Cardwell family with this story taking place in Bozeman, Montana. The couple focus is on Hayes Cardwell and McKenzie Sheldon. My Take What is it with men (and some women!) who think a woman is “asking for it” when she dresses sexy? So what? If a woman enjoys dressing in a tight skirt or a low-cut blouse, that’s her option. You can enjoy the view or ignore it. That’s your option. Let’s reverse that point-of-view. Let’s say you’re a guy wearing tight jeans and a form-fitting T that shows off your muscles. Does that mean you are asking for it? Or do you […]

Book Review: Sidney Halston’s Against the Cage

Book Review: Sidney Halston’s Against the Cage

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Against the Cageon May 27, 2014 and has 256 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble First in the Worth the Fight romance series. The couple focus is on Chrissy Martin and Jack Daniels and is set in Tarpon Springs in Florida. I received this eArc from the publisher in exchange for an honest review…and ooh, boy… My Take The description is accurate enough, but it’s also more exciting than the story itself, which is full of clichéd tropes and melodrama — and most of the drama is caused by Chrissy leaping to judgment. It’s a good idea Halston has, but the superficiality, the lack of development, the rush to get the story written, and the overwhelming lack of show does not help. Chrissy’s character is too stupid for words while Slade’s character is so one-sided and brimming with arrogance. It’s only fair since his sister is also full of it. There are a lot of subplots going on in this, and it’s like reading a rough outline that Halston started to […]

Book Review: Dani Atkins’ Then and Always

Book Review: Dani Atkins’ Then and Always

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Then and Alwayson May 20, 2014 and has 322 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo A twisted version of time travel à la the movie Sliding Doors, and for some reason, I keep wanting to call it psychological. Based in Great Bishopsford, England. Just to warn you, I did receive this as an eARC from the publisher. And be prepared to cry. I had to put this down for several days before I could continue on to an ending that was marvelous, bittersweet, and lovely. My Take This is a twisty tale that’ll keep your heart rate up as you wonder what’ll happen next, when the hammer will drop and send you right back to the old ways. It’s also one of the few stories I’ve read that used the first person point-of-view, which I liked and didn’t make me feel uncomfortable. It is terrifying to think how quickly and easily one’s whole life can change within minutes. I also wonder if Rachel really wants to marry Matt, as they’ve been […]
