PHP-Like Menu for iWeb

PHP-Like Menu for iWeb

I like to play in Apple’s iWeb. I especially like to play with pushing it past its limitations and creating dropdown menus in it. One menu which I created for a genealogy website, Family Tree, is similar to the concept of a php menu. An iWeb Menu iWeb creates a horizontal menu for you at the top of each page. It works fine if you don’t have too many links. Once you start getting complicated, you can end up with a web page, which is half eaten up with links. Hence the usefulness of a dropdown menu. A dropdown menu which you can drop in with an HTML Snippet. iWeb’s HTML Snippet widget is a useful little creature. Just about anything you can code can be pasted into a snippet and positioned on a web page—including dropdown menus. Just include the CSS, the JavaScript, and the HTML in one file. Then cut-and-paste it into the snippet you dragged onto your iWeb page. A Custom iWeb Menu Has Its Issues Most of the websites I create in iWeb need a custom menu. The negative side of this is that for every tiny change you make to the menu on one page, […]

Anne McCaffrey, Dragonseye

Anne McCaffrey, Dragonseye

Dragonseye by Anne McCaffrey Series: Dragonriders of Pern, 258 AL My rating: 4 of 5 stars It’s 258 AL, 258 years after landing, in the Dragonriders of Pern fantasy series. The StoryI do love McCaffrey’s Dragonriders series and I’m afraid I spent more time cataloging the differences than I did analyzing the story. Changes are occurring in this Second Pass of Thread. Some people are starting to use “Turn” instead of “year”. Fort Hold is building a separate College building for teaching and laboratories because the cave system at Hold is unstable. It will become the Harper Hall somewhere down the road. The dragonriders are complaining about how difficult it is to get girls to impress at a Hatching because dragonriders can’t own land. Fire lizards have disappeared due to some Northern illness. The computers have finally failed completely…I want one of their computers! And the College is talking of changing the types of subjects taught and the way in which they are taught. They remember AIVAS and its shutting itself down so people stop relying upon it for all the information needed to survive. The Duty Song is written as well as other songs to help people remember what […]

Todd McCaffrey, Dragon’s Kin

Todd McCaffrey, Dragon’s Kin

Dragon’s Kin by Anne McCaffrey Series: Dragonriders of Pern, 491 AL My rating: 2 of 5 stars Sorry…I just have no enthusiasm about this book and it shows in the review…The only reason I’m giving it a 2 is…it’s Pern. It’s 491 AL, 491 years after landing, and sixteen years before Thread is scheduled to return to Pern with the primary action taking place at Natalon’s mine. It parallels Dragonsblood and Dragon’s Fire. The StoryThe focus in this story is on the watch-whers. Most people despise them and feel they’re useless. Silstra marries Terregar. Kindan rescues Natalon’s family when something blocks the chimney in his hold. In Dragon’s Kin, the people who have the authority to change this attitude learn of their true value when Kisk rescues miners. The CharactersKindan is the youngest in his family and after the tragedy, Master Zist takes him in and starts his training to become a harper. Danil is Kindan’s father and the WherHandler for Dask. Silstra is Kindan’s sister and she marries Terregar. It’s for their wedding that Dask performs his light show. No one knows of Nuella’s existence. She’s blind and Master Natalon is terrified that she will impact badly on her […]
