Book Review: Angela Knight’s Master of Darkness

Book Review: Angela Knight’s Master of Darkness

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Master of DarknessIt is part of the Mageverse #9 series and is a in Paperback edition on August 7, 2012 and has 294 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon Other books in this series include [books_series] Ninth and last in the Mageverse paranormal romance series revolving around two groups whom Merlin set up centuries ago. The couple focus is on Miranda Drake and William Justice, both Dire Wolves. My Take Dire Wolf girl acknowledges Dire Wolf boy. Boy must fulfill a prophecy of humongous proportions that enables Knight to set us up for her new series. Bad guy almost wins, nyah-nyah-nyahhh. Sorry, I’m having a difficult time being enthusiastic as well, aren’t I? The really sad thing is this could have been as good as previous stories. Okay, getting serious… Well, Knight was obviously ready to be done with this series. Oh, it was written nicely enough, but most of the usual sassiness and eroticism was missing in this book. Justice suddenly has this special power and Knight treats it like it’s no […]

Book Review: Julia Quinn’s The Duke and I

Book Review: Julia Quinn’s The Duke and I

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Duke and IIt is part of the Bridgertons #1 series and is a in Paperback edition on June 27, 2006 and has 384 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon Other books in this series include [books_series] First in the Bridgerton Family historical romance series revolving around the eight Bridgerton children Lady Bridgerton intends to marry off. My Take While not adhering rigidly to the time period, Quinn stays faithful for the most part to the time period as she explores the hurt a parent can inflict on a child. Although Quinn starts with a old cliché — the besieged young man who suggests throwing all the marriage-minded mamas off the scent by pretending an interest in each other, it does turn into a cute story with a strong-minded young woman who can’t believe he’d be interested in her. A consideration that Quinn does make believable. I was annoyed at the next major cliché…the “oh you lied to me” bit. Please. Simon did not lie, she misinterpreted and, in the arrogance of youth […]

Book Review: Kim Donovan’s The Riotous Rocket Ship Robbery

Book Review: Kim Donovan’s The Riotous Rocket Ship Robbery

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Riotous Rocket Ship Robberyon May 22, 2012 and has 97 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon First in the St. Viper’s School for Super Villains fantasy series for children. It revolves around a righteous group of four newbies to the school, determined to succeed yet clashing with the desire to help each other. I received this eARC from the author. My Take It was fun to read the other side’s viewpoint! A school for super villains where everyone is encouraged to be as bad as possible. No punishments! Instead you get points for naughtiness. And yet, the four who gang together help each other out. It’s an interesting contrast between the need to be bad and the desire to help. I did enjoy the descriptions of the various students and Donovan had a lot of fun with their interaction — imagine being encouraged to misbehave! Teachers and students make messes, attack each other, and cause mayhem. And they’re rewarded! Great sound effects! It certainly suited the tone of the book. Donovan was […]

Book Review: Paul Dorset’s The Prophecy

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Prophecyon February 22, 2011 and has 378 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon First in the Xannu fantasy series for ??? …to be honest, I’m not sure if this is aimed at children or young adults. This eARC was given me by the author. My Take I was 216 pages in and there really isn’t much in the way of emotions or drama in this story. It’s fun. I’m enjoying its childlike qualities, and it does involve a quest. I’m also curious to discover how Teern and Maria, Selene and Matthius, and Terry all fit together into this. There are possibilities for moral lessons, but I have to confess that I’m just not emotionally involved in wanting to know what happens next. I want my heart to pound, my breathing to quicken, my body to tense. I want to empathize when they are caught in the blizzards. I want to feel the swinging of that bridge and the lack of air when Ariana dives. In parts, it reads like a young children’s […]

Book Review: E.L. James’ Fifty Shades Darker

Book Review: E.L. James’ Fifty Shades Darker

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Fifty Shades DarkerIt is part of the Fifty Shades #2 series and is a in Paperback edition on September 16, 2011 and has 532 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon Other books in this series include [books_series] Second in the Fifty Shades erotic romance trilogy revolving around Christian Grey and Ana Steele. My Take What a load of crap. James didn’t write the first Fifty Shades well, but at least she gave it some heart and drama. In this one, the writing is simply horrible. Its only saving grace is Ana “saving” Christine Grey from himself. Otherwise, it’s a lot of whine, whine, whine. I try to remind myself that she’s young and hasn’t had much experience, but, ohhhh, the whining…and the juvenile romancing. Yuck. Somebody, please, find me a bucket! I do enjoy the emails they bat back and forth; I don’t understand why Ana is such an idiot about refusing to use her BlackBerry for those inflammatory emails she does send him. I can’t figure out if she’s simply stupid or […]
