My Take
Wow, Davis is amazing. I love her metaphors, her presentation of what’s expected of Kasie. She explores the concept of fantasy. Of the appeal of voyeurism. The beauty of memories. This is an analysis of how we approach life, if we acknowledge our beliefs, our philosophies…all within the confines of Kasie’s self-examination.
Part of the deal was that I not quote from the book…and I cannot begin to tell you how difficult this is! There are at least three quotes I had wanted to post.
One on the jerk. Another in which Kasie feels so out of her depth and Davis expresses this so beautifully! And the third, oh god, it’s just so sad how trapped Kasie feels…
It’s safety versus freedom, expectations versus self-realization. It’s a safe life Kasie has chosen and one night in Vegas makes her realize how wrong it is. Yet she’s caught in the trap of conformity.
Oh, talk about phone sex! Skype has a lot to answer for, ROFL.
It’s such a struggle for Kasie. Battling for and against her upbringing, her sister’s example. All of it set within Davis’ clean, spare, intellectual writing that slips her warm words over your skin, making you feel every bit of the attraction and anguish Kasie endures.
Davis has crafted a beautiful story that provides everything a good story should in a tight, compact package.

The Characters
Kasie Fitzgerald is an investment analyst who graduated top of her class from Harvard. She’s always been everything her parents and teachers wanted. Completely unlike her sister, Melody. She’s about to marry the comforting Dave Beasley, a tax attorney. Safe, dependable, real. Simone is Kasie’s best friend.
Barbara is her assistant. Tom Love is her boss. Her Maned Wolf team includes Dameon, Asha, Nina, and Taci. Dyland Freeland is Dave’s godfather, a founding member of the firm for which Kasie works.
Robert Dade is CEO of Maned Wolf Security Systems, which provides security for huge corporations all over the world. Sonya is his assistant. Will is his partner.
The Cover and Title
The cover is beautifully done for the most part. Warm tones of brown and yellows with spare graphics that tell the tale: a diamond engagement ring, a glass of scotch, and a room key.
The title reflects “The Stranger” with whom just one night changes everything.
