My Take

This installment revolves around the Montana Pack with a crisis of death and rebirth with one of the pack killed in a senseless car accident who then ascends to their version of Chanku heaven where, surprisingly, she displaces the current goddess.

Turns out the old goddess has been doing a really lousy job, and she gets kicked down to earth as a mortal.

Her mate is grief-stricken and refuses to have anything to do with Lianna, so naturally, the whole story is about love, forgiveness, and acceptance. It’s quite a rocky patch for the group as everyone is unhappy with losing a loved one and even more unhappy with Lianna’s track record as their old goddess.

My only complaint about this particular story is that it’s all too easy for Lianna to accept her “downfall” and for most of the pack to accept her into their lives. There should have been more tension in their interactions.

The Story

The Chanku are gifted with more power — of mind, body, and soul — than the most superior of humans. Yet even these exceptional beings cannot change the laws of nature…or destiny. And when one loses his human life mate to a tragic accident, he is shattered by grief he never imagined possible…

The only thing worse than losing his love is knowing that her death was caused by the incompetence of a goddess supposedly possessed of timeless wisdom. The justice dealt for the goddess’s horrible mistake is a demotion — from immortal to human — and the charge of filling the missing space in the Montana pack. But while some accept her quickly, not all are so willing…

It is time for Anton, Stefan, and Adam to test the newcomer: to see if she can withstand the heights of ecstasy these Chanku men will show her — and to discover whether, when faced with the ultimate sacrifice, she will make the right choice…

The Characters

The Montana Pack
Eve Reynolds is the human mate to, I’m guessing, Adam Wolf.

Anton Cheval is the alpha who learned what he was. His mate, Keisha Rialto, is Ulrich Mason‘s long lost niece and a landscape architect. Stefan Aragat and his mate, Alexandria “Xandi” Xanet, are part of his pack.

Lianna is the Chanku goddess.

The Cover and Title

The cover is a profile of the nude torsos of Adam and Lianna, his arm with tattooed bicep embraces Lianna. The base of the cover is dark providing a nice contrast to the author’s name in white. The title is a dusky lilac angled above the author’s name. The upper corners are silhouettes of bare tree branches.

The title is unimaginative yet informative, as it is Wolf Tales 10.
