Book Review: Mark Del Franco’s Undone Deeds

Book Review: Mark Del Franco’s Undone Deeds

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Undone Deedsin Paperback edition on January 31, 2012 and has 336 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon Sixth and…wah…last in the Connor Grey series. I can see where Del Franco has left the possibility of Connor coming back…that or I’m incredibly optimistic! My Take Whoa…several surprises in this one! I certainly never saw most of them coming! I do wish Del Franco had been more forthcoming about the truth behind Convergence! I think Briallen was in on at least two of the secrets. It’s odd that Connor is on the run from the police, the Teuts, and the Celts and yet he’s walking around unbothered. Although, Ceridwen is helping Connor out. Ooh, romance! With an unexpected couple! Too funny! I love Connor’s reaction to waking up with Meryl about to plunge a dagger in his head: “Did I leave the seat up again?” Then there’s Joe’s comment when war breaks out: “They grow up so fast, don’t they? First they’re waving their spears around, then they’re figuring out how to use them.” I […]

Book Review: Jasper Fforde’s The Woman Who Died a Lot

Book Review: Jasper Fforde’s The Woman Who Died a Lot

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Woman Who Died a Lotin Paperback edition on July 12, 2012 and has 384 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon Seventh in the Tuesday Next fantasy series about a secret agent-type librarian willing to take on megalithic corporations intent on ruling the world through books. Greed. Money. Power. Books. In 2012, The Woman Who Died a Lot was nominated for the Goodreads Choice for Best Fantasy. My Take I really don’t recommend diving into this without having read at least a few of the earlier Thursday Nexts. (Start with The Eyre Affair — Jane Austen lovers may riot or embrace its nonsense, but y’all won’t be bored!) The first half was bloody confusing. And it’s totally fantastical, odd, crazy, and disjointed. Don’t even try to make sense of it. However, it is well worth reading if only for the snark and send-ups Fforde enjoys making against society, books and reading, and our own expectations. It’s not until the second half that all the ends set loose in the first half start to […]

Book Review: Tania Carver’s The Creeper

Book Review: Tania Carver’s The Creeper

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. The Creeperon 2009 and has 480 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon Second in the Brennan & Esposito creepy horror-suspense series set in Colchester, England and revolving (not very well) around a profiler for the Colchester police. This copy was provided by the publisher. My Take I will never understand holding something back from the cops. Suzanne is traumatized. With good reason. So when the police are there trying to help her, why is she so reluctant to respond to DC Hepburn’s questions? Carver is good at creating tension, and I was up all night reading this. I had to find out what was going on. But she has some dumb characters. When Suzanne and Zoe find the “present” in the fridge, why don’t they call the cops? Why do they stay?? I’m having a difficult time feeling sorry for Suzanne. What is up with Marina? One, for a series that supposedly is named for her, she’s practically a no-show. Two, She loves Phil, but has to be away from him? She “just […]
