Now this word confusion Number versus Numeral is not one I ever expected. Don’t get me wrong, but numbers and numerals can be synonyms for each other, but technically . . .

Number is a noun or a verb and describes an abstracted mathematical value being represented, e.g., ((1 * 10^2) + (1 * 10) + 9). Another way to put it is that number is a mathematical tool that is used to measure, count, and label.

Numeral is an adjective or a noun and is a conventional symbol that represents a number, e.g., 253, twelve, 10, LV.

It evolved into a sharing of information with y’all. I’m hoping you’ll share with us words that have been a bête noire for you from either end.
