Fifth in the Cut & Run romantic suspense series and revolving around two FBI partners: Zane and Ty, who are based in Baltimore.

It’s been a week since Zane found that note from Divide & Conquer, 4.

My Take

Winter road trip!! You may have thought Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was funny…

you ain’t seen funny yet.

Lol. And it only gets more poignant when the guys discover how they’ve been played. That on top of all the emotions both guys are feeling—how much harder must it be for two guys to talk about their feelings??

“Because…you make me the kind of person I’ve always wished I was.”

YES! We finally get an explanation for the pendant Zane bought Ty in Fish & Chips, 3. Oh lordy, then there’s that shopping trip when Ty gets Zane undercover clothes, LOL.

Roux/Urban sure know how to twist things up! They had me so worried and panicky. And it’s all too believable. The tension level ratchets up and up until Roux/Urban burst that bubble…

and what an explosion that is!

I’m annoyed about that note. The text says and implies one thing, but then Ty calls and explains it in such a way that makes no sense, although the following line really cracked me up…

“God, I love it when you’re cranky like this. Promise to still be pissed when I get home, okay?”

Okay, that was a twist I hadn’t expected…

and it’s part of what I love about Roux/Urban’s Cut & Run series. They keep going where I don’t expect.

Too funny. Cross and Jacobs keep trying to gross out the he-men FBI agents, only to find later that the joke’s on them.

I keep thinking that Burns knows about Zane and Ty…

T-shirt time! A gator and a ‘dile sayin’ goodbye. A robot with the slogan, “Overkill is one of my many modes”.

Mmmm, secret lives, TSA, cavity searches…

Ha, ha, I do like that Urban/Roux portray Zane and Ty as educated guys. Yes, they’re great in a fight, I’d take them as backup any time, they get emotional, and they’re smart, interested in a variety of topics. It’s a fab combination.

“Is this some sort of boys’ weekend that I’m not supposed to intrude on? Because I can totally leave before they hurt themselves trying to lie convincingly.”

We finally learn what happened in Afghanistan to Ty. Oh. Boy. This is so bad. I sure hope this sort of thing doesn’t really happen. I’d prefer to think Urban/Roux have that disgusting of a mind frame! Although, sliding back into the story, payoffs???

LOL, I love that scene in the CIA interrogation room. Ty is too funny, and I can’t wait to start reading.

And Ty and Zane decide they’ll come out…

The Story

Someone within the CIA is burning agents, teams, operations. And they’re framing an old family friend: Randall Jones.

The only person who can turn the tables is an asset and assassin who refuses to come in for fear of his own life. There’s only one man AD Burns trusts to bring him in.

The Characters

Special Agent Beaumont Tyler Grady, a.k.a., Meow Mix (you’ll have to read Sticks & Stones, 2, to get this reference, LOL), is being a jerk in this initial segue between Divide & Conquer and Armed & Dangerous. An ex-Force Recon Marine, he has a beautiful singing voice and has been used for some dirty ops work by the FBI. Well, he’s does enjoy all that almost-getting-killed stuff…

He’s also on the run from his feelings. Special Agent Zane Garrett finally told Ty he loved him in Divide & Conquer, and after a beautiful night, Zane wakes up to an excuse of a note. Deacon, a.k.a., Deuce, is Ty’s younger brother, a psychiatrist; he’s dating a yoga instructor, Livi. And she’s pregnant.

Ty’s Force Recon Marine buddies
Nick O’Flaherty is a cop in Boston now. He lives aboard his boat. Digger is preparing a bayou welcome.

Richard Burns is the executive assistant director of the Criminal Investigative Divison of the FBI, and he sends select agents out on missions referred to as Misfits. Nancy is his assistant. Fellow agents include Fred Perrimore and Michelle Clancy who is dating Tim from Financial Crimes. Special-Agent-in-Charge Dan McCoy, a.k.a., Mac, is the boys’ boss.

Jack Tanner was the knife guy at the FBI Academy who taught Zane how to use knives. Ava was a woman Ty had met while undercover in New Orleans to whom he almost proposed.

Randall Jonas with the CIA has been friends with Richard and Ty’s family for decades, ever since Burns’ original Marine Corps squadron returned from Vietnam; Trish is his wife. Julian Cross, a.k.a., Julian Bailey, is a high-level asset and wet works operative. Blake Nichols is Cross’ handler and wants assurances.

Cameron Jacobs is Julian’s boyfriend. He takes care of Julian’s cats: Wesson and Smith. Preston is Julian’s driver and cohort. Nestor is the retired friend with a biplane.

Agents X and Y are two of the opposition trying to catch them. Then there’s Leatherface and Rugburn.

The Cover and Title

The cover is perfect in its simplicity: a bare white background and a pair of open handcuffs.

The title focuses on Ty and Julian, both of whom are Armed & Dangerous.
