Word Confusion: Bib versus Bibb

Posted June 10, 2021 by Kathy Davie in Author Resources, Self-Editing, Word Confusions, Writing

The bibb lettuce is sacrosanct. Okay, okay, you could also refer to it as Bibb lettuce…

For the rest, bib and bibb are alternate spellings for each other. However, in exploring the Internet for definitions, I found lots and lots of bib definitions but only three for a bibb. The rational conclusion is that while bib and bibb are alternate spellings for each other, the bib is the common choice for most everything.

Nautically? Sure, go with bibb, but I’d keep that spelling for the lettuce and ships.

Again, whichever spelling you choose, be consistent.

Word Confusions…

…started as my way of dealing with a professional frustration with properly spelled words that were out of context in manuscripts I was editing as well as books I was reviewing. It evolved into a sharing of information with y’all. I’m hoping you’ll share with us words that have been a bête noir for you from either end.
