A novella that is fourth in the Demonica Underworld, a continuation of the Demonica Universe (#11) dark paranormal romance. (It’s also 05.5 in the Lords of Deliverance and sixth in 1001 Dark Nights.) This Underworld revolves around Azagoth, the Grim Reaper and the lord of Sheoul-gra.
My Take
This is all about the power of love. Finding it though, well, it comes with an incentive for life, if Jedda finds what he wants.
We learn what Jedda and Razr think, feel, and experience through Ione’s use of third person dual protagonist point-of-view from their perspectives.
The concept of gem elves is intriguing. It’s cute that elves prefer living in the human world because of its chaos. Maybe it’s why Jedda could be so honest in her introspection!
Ooh, Razr is just beset by “bargains”. Poor boy. Even worse, he doesn’t feel that his formal punishment is enough.
Hmm, that’s some excuse, using a gem’s alignment to explain why one goes evil and becomes good. Huh. Ione has an interesting take on how these life-stones work. An evil life-stone usually means the elf can lead normal lives if they live in the elf realm. Seems a bit contradictory.
And that becomes the real conflict: Why the Gems of Enoch are NOT good.
That visit to Filneshara was fun! The landscape, the trees (and their brutal punishments!), the whole Middle Earth feel.
Oy! What is it with angel parents!??
It’s an easy read and almost cartoonish with the whole elf culture and physical requirements, but definitely fun. Okay, so Razr gets ripped too often, and the reason/purpose of his punishment is emotionally wrought . . . but still fun.

Razr will never get rid of his punishment. Not unless he can find those gems. Then Jim Bob provides a clue
The Characters
Jedda Brighton, a gem elf, is a gemologist and mineralogist with an upscale jewelry shop in London. The shop is also a front for dealing cursed and enchanted gems. Manda and Reina are/were Jedda’s sisters. Sylvia and Becky, a dedicated churchgoer, are some of Jedda’s employees.
Razriel “Razr”, an elite battle angel (who loves his coffee) who was kicked out of Heaven, works for Azagoth training Azagoth’s army of Memitim and Unfallen refugees. He, unfortunately, has to suffer random angelic punishments.
Sheoul-gra is . . .
. . . an underworld realm, a holding tank for the souls of dead demons and evil humans, ruled by Azagoth, a.k.a. the Grim Reaper. who’s married to Lilliana (“Azagoth“, 1 (DU), 11 (Dem)). Zhubaal is Azagoth’s right-hand man and Razr’s direct superior; he’s mated to Vex (“Z” 3 (DU), 14 (Dem)). Hawkyn, one of Azagoth’s sons, a Memitim, is skilled in alchemy. Suzanne, Hawkyn’s full sister, likes to make miniature foods. Griminions are creepy short dudes, who work for Azagoth. Hades is mated to Cat (Hades, 2 (DU), 13 (Dem), 6.5 (LoD)). Cipher, an Unfallen, is a Fabio wanna-be.
Memitim are Azagoth’s children; they’re charged with guarding primoris, humans who are important to the fabric of existence. A heraldi is a mark that notifies a Memitim when their primori needs them.
Slayte was a fallen angel in Sheoul.
Heaven
Reaver is the most famous battle angel in history. His brother, Revenant, Sheoul’s new king, had locked away Satan. “Jim Bob” is an angel spy. Gadreel is an archangel.
Ebel, an angry angel, and Darlah had been Razr’s teammates those 100 years ago. Nabebe had been the human host for the Ice Diamond.

An Unfallen angel is an in-between state of an angel who had lost his/her wings, but has not entered Sheoul, the demon realm. Darlah is Razr’s former lover, presumed dead when she failed to return from a mission. Taaffeite is a gem. A Harrowgate is a transportation system used by demons to travel.
Sweet Satie One-Eye is a disgusting elf hero. Azdai was an angel before humans knew what angels were. And he had some sociopathic issues. Baradoc is a demonologist. Lucifer and Satan are two different demons. Charnel Apostles are nuclear evil who can create amazing gemstones. Tom is an overweight, abusive slob . . . and rich.
The Cover and Title
The cover is almost neon! It’s a black background divided into thirds. The upper two thirds is fuchsia in the novella series name and its fuchsia filigree stars and circles. The first “0” holds a front-facing angel with that incredibly ripped abdomen, his turquoise wings wide open, and his hands behind his upstretched neck. The second “0” is filled with an Ice Diamond. In the middle is the title in lilac with the series information also in lilac. In the lower third of the cover is a purplish blue for the author’s name and the same blues and purples used for the filigree stars and circles. The middle “i” also functions as a demon caduceus.
The title is one of the protagonists, “Razr”.
