A curious blend of Kate Daniels, The Innkeeper Chronicles, and Hidden Legacy in three fantasy series with the focus on Kate Daniels and Curran Lennart versus Nevada Baylor and Connor Rogan. It’s a free very short story on the authors’ website.

My Take

This is curious as it’s a “contest” between Magic Breaks, 7, and Burn for Me, 1, with the winner being the DABWAHA Champion.

Kate and Curran debate with Nevada and Rogan over which series is better (seventh in the Kate Daniels series and first in the Hidden Legacy series) and it descends into living in sin versus instalust — and how long it’s taking for Kate and Curran to make it legal.

It’s a question of longevity and which series is better for having been around versus the new kids on the block. Self-defense versus good shot. Who’s better at business? Who still lives at home? Who has the better parent and more, lol.

There is implied action but mostly heated words tossed back and forth, each promoting their own series, naturally.

The Story

It’s a debate over who and which series is better, a debate that rapidly gets, ahem, active.

The Characters

Kate Daniels

Kate Daniels has a propensity for violence, and she is good with that sword of hers. She’s the Consort, Curran’s mate, and Sharrim, daughter of Roland, the king. Curran Lennart, a lionshifter, created the Pack and has led it for seventeen years.

Hidden Legacy

Nevada Baylor runs her family’s detective agency and has a gift for Truthseeking. They may be poor, but her family is incredibly supportive. Connor Rogan, “Mad Rogan”, is a complex and extremely powerful billionaire with telekinetic, tactile, and empath powers, a child from a calculated marriage.

The Innkeeper Chronicles

Dina Demille is the primary protagonist in this series and runs a sentient inn, Gertrude Hunt, in Texas.

The Cover and Title

The title refers to a tournament of romance books in which readers vote until there is but one champion, one book — “Dabwaha”.
