A tiny, teeny story of tweets, 5.7, in the Kate Daniels arcanepunk fantasy series set in an apocalyptic world with an alternative history revolving around a mouthy mercenary and her lionshifter lover. If you’re interested, there is a chronological listing of the Kate Daniels books on my website.

Read it for “free on the Ilona Andrews website. Grab it while you can, as these short story links generally aren’t stable.

My Take

Andrews uses third person protagonist point-of-view from Curran’s evil, jealous perspective, lol.

This rivalry between Curran (that boy is ALL cat, *snicker*) and Saiman, who just has to beat everyone, is such a crack-up.

Andrews is using Twitter (which can’t possibly exist in this world) for a conversation between Raphael, Curran, Jim, and Kate. It’s Curran’s determination, Raphael’s rising panic, Jim’s bemusement, and Kate’s suspicions that fuel the fun.

The Story

When Curran learns that Saiman is bidding on a building, he instructs Raphael to overbid him.

He’s also trying to avoid Kate finding out.

The Characters

Curran is the Beast Lord of the Pack in Atlanta. Kate Daniels is his very reluctant Consort with a mercenary bent.

Jim is Curran’s best friend, chief of security, and the Alpha of Clan Cat. Raphael is the male Alpha of Clan Bouda, which is led by his mother, Aunt Bea.

Saiman is the pervert — he prefers “sexual deviant” — frost giant who keeps trying to get in Kate’s pants.

The Title

The title is a means to an “evil” end, “The Wilson Building”.
