A free short story, 5.5 in The Innkeeper Chronicles science fiction series revolving around a woman who runs a bed-and-breakfast for galactic travelers. The couple focus is on Maud and Arland with a dose of Klaus.

My Take

Too funny! I do love Andrews’ Innkeeper Chronicles. An adventurous comic journey in space with such a wide range of characters.

In this installment, *laughing*, Klaus’ terrifying news has quite the reaction coming from Maud and Arland, who knows how his mother will react.

It’s third person protagonist point-of-view from Maud’s perspective and so true to her nature *more laughter*. I hate that I have to wait for #6!!!

The Story

It’s a bitter revelation, as Klaus explains that Maud and Arland must postpone their wedding — for a decade!

The Characters

Maud is Dina’s sister (One Fell Sweep, 3, and Sweep of the Blade, 4), Maven of House Krahr, and currently engaged to Arland, the vampire Marshall of House Krahr (Clean Sweep, 1). Lady Ilemina is Arland’s mother and the ruler of their House.

Klaus Demille is Maud and Dina’s long-lost brother, who chose to become an Arbitrator (Sweep of the Heart, 5; we originally met him in The Edge).

Dina DeMille is an innkeeper for the Gertrude Hunt Bed and Breakfast in Red Deer, Texas.

The mukama are dragons (Sweep of the Blade).

The Cover and Title

The cover is my own interpretation using the image on Andrews’ web page. All blues, the background is space with the shadow of a huge planet with a satellite planet orbiting it on the lower right and a space station tilted on the right. Above is a tilted flat disk in pale blues.

The title is not as satisfying as Maud had hoped. Klaus says “I Will Explain Everything”, but it does not have the impact he was hoping for.
