Book Review: George Hagen’s Gabriel Finley and the Raven’s Riddle

Book Review: George Hagen’s Gabriel Finley and the Raven’s Riddle

I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Gabriel Finley and the Raven’s Riddleon August 26, 2014 and has 384 pages.Explore it on Goodreads or Amazon, Barnes & Noble I suspect this is the first in a series, although Hagen hasn’t given it a name yet. It’s a fantasy for middle-grade readers, and the story is based in Brooklyn. A special thanks to NetGalley and Schwartz & Wade for allowing me to enjoy this eARC. My Take This truly was great fun with a unique twist incorporating vampirism. It’s a combination of family, bullying, shapeshifting of a sort, and my favorite part, the riddles. Why is it my favorite? Because I can figure most of them out!! Woo-hoo! Usually I’m terrible at riddles. Hagen starts with a raven origin story, why ravens no longer speak to us, and it makes me wonder if this is more of a horror story. If it is, parents needn’t worry about this keeping the kids up at night as it’s really very mild with a breath of the Lord of the Rings in this when they […]

My Goals for the Bout of Books 11.0

My Goals for the Bout of Books 11.0

As part of Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal’s read-a-thon, Bout of Books 11.0, I’m to include my goals regarding what I want to accomplish in this glorious bout of reading, including the time I’ll set aside for reading and what I hope to have read by the end of Sunday, the 24th. Time Devoted to Reading I read every day — it keeps me sane. At worst, I read all day. Hmmm, did I say worst? I meant, BEST! YEAH for reading!! At worst, I might get a bit of reading in when I first wake up — breakfast in bed! — and when I go to bed at night. And during the night if I can’t sleep. It’s always handy to have my Kindle at hand when I’m on the move so I can read on-the-go and not get bored waiting in line or in someone’s office. Reading also makes for a lovely break from thinking my way through a review. I know, doesn’t seem to make sense, but it does for me! My Goals I do have a few catch-up goals, including catching up with the library books that are coming […]

The Challenge: A Bout of Books 11.0 Read-a-Thon!

The Challenge: A Bout of Books 11.0 Read-a-Thon!

This Bout of Books 11 read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week-long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team I guess I missed Bout of Books 10…sigh…I’ll have to make up for missing that challenge by joining this one, #11. I’ll…I’ll just have to sacrifice myself and read as many books as I can between August 18 to 24, Monday to Sunday, lol. Oh, yeah, as if I need the excuse to read more…*grin*… Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal came up with this Bout of Books 11.0 (click here if you want to register), and I do adore any excuse to read. (I learned […]
