So I was reading along and came to a full stop.

“I suspect you would have an early addition in which case, I thank you for your offer but, no, I cannot accept responsibility for so costly an item.”

As this was referring back to a discussion on Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, I could only assume the author meant edition.

It’s pretty simple. Addition is from add, something that is added.

Edition is from edit. It’s a broad hint that edition refers to something that is edited, published, or broadcast.

Word Confusions . . .

. . . started as my way of dealing with a professional frustration with properly spelled words that were out of context in manuscripts I was editing as well as books I was reviewing. It evolved into a sharing of information with y’all. I’m hoping you’ll share with us words that have been a bête noire for you from either end.
