My Take

Elena has got some mouth on her, challenging an archangel — and good for her! I do love how assertive she is and how protective she is of herself and those for whom she cares.

It’s an amazingly complex world and culture of humanity and the supernatural that Singh has created. A very compelling one in which archangels rule, and along with the angels, consider themselves above all others with a chilling secret.

Raphael’s Seven increase the complexity while Elena’s fellow hunters provide relief. Then there are Lijuan’s walking dead.

Singh slides us into the story with the end of one of Elena’s hunts and then drops us into the world of Raphael. I love that contradiction of terror and chutzpah. Singh portrays the cold of Raphael beautifully.

Then Singh makes it even more complicated with Elena’s family history. I wanna smack someone! Of course, Raphael also has a complicated family history. Just goes to show that it doesn’t really matter what your background is, we share commonalities.

Singh is primarily using a third person dual protagonist point-of-view from Elena’s and Raphael’s perspectives.

I cannot believe the nerve of Elena’s father! Michaela is just as bad, maybe worse. It’s hard to gauge.

It’s a tale of love and the violent interaction of two species. Full of action with a wide range of characters. All at a medium pace that occasionally ratchets up to fast.

The Story

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she’s the best—but she doesn’t know if she’s good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear — failure is not an option — even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…

The Cover and Title

The cover is a range of yellows to oranges to browns. At first glance it appears to be flames, but it’s actually an overpowering light against the New York skyline that surrounds an Elena in profile, her white hair curling down her back and wearing a knife, T-shirt, and jeans. At the very top is a testimonial in white with a black outline and the author’s name in the same colors. Starting at mid-torso is the title in a gradient of deep red to a brighter red with a yellow outline. At the very bottom is the series info in white.

The title is the reason behind this story, for it’s Angel’s Blood that sets the action off.
