My Take

The first half of this short story is from Jo-Jo’s point-of-view as she takes Gin in, once again, to fix her up. I do like Jo-Jo. She is the kindest woman, but she won’t take any sass from anybody!

The second half is Sophia’s point-of-view and we learn just what her magic does and why she’s dedicated her aid to Fletcher and now Gin. A good lesson about kindness.

This is a useful short story as it provides the background on what the girls’ gifts can do and their reasons for pledging their aid to Fletcher Lane.

The Story

Rescuing a mother and her little girl from carjackers results in an intense beating on Gin. Luckily, she’s able to get to Jo-Jo.

The Characters

Gin Blanco is also the assassin feared and known as the Spider. Finnegan Lane was Fletcher Lane’s son and is Gin’s foster brother. Fletcher was the Tin Man, her assassin mentor and savior.

Jolene “Jo-Jo” Deveraux, a girly-girl dwarf, is known as a drama mama, who runs a good old-fashioned beauty salon using her Air elemental gift to heal and improve with the gift of visions thrown in. Rosco is her very practical basset hound. Sophia Deveraux is Jo-Jo’s younger sister with a preference for Goth-style, who uses her Air elemental gift to dispose of the bodies Gin leaves behind as the Spider. She’s a good cook too. Sophia gets visions as well, but hers tend to look back at what people have done.

The Title

I’m guessing the title refers to the Devereaux sisters’ “Tangled Dreams”, their visions as they see past and future about the people with whom they tangle.
