My Take

On reading “Weapons Training” and putting together this review, I got to thinking how very smart Singh is in creating these short peeks into the lives of her characters. It’s a great way to flesh them out. Make them come alive for her readers. And why waste the effort? Posting them as a free story simply makes sense.

In this one, Jessamy challenges her lover on his disgruntled comment, and it’s their back-and-forth that reveals the truth of his anger.

Singh does a lovely tiny story in this, revealing so much about Jessamy and Galen as a couple as they argue, reminisce, and love.

The Story

A spat, a difference of opinion about weaknesses and potential as Elena leaves the training grounds.

The Characters

Galen is Raphael’s weaponsmaster while Jessamy is the librarian, historian, and teacher of their young. Both live at the Refuge, a retreat and the home of angelkind.

Elena is consort to Raphael, the archangel of New York City who rules a good chunk of North America. Illium is one of his angels.

The Title

The title is the prelude to the dispute as Galen wonders if her “Weapons Training” will be enough.
